Today Bijou won her last point to become an American Champion & give her Mom, Skye, her AMCA Register of Merit title. Wahoooo!!
Bijou is the 3rd dog from Skye’s last litter (of 6) to become an American Champion, and all were under 2 years old. Tycho, Caesar & Bijou all qualify for the AKC/Eukanuba National Invitationals in 2011 since they all finished out of the puppy or BBE classes, so look out Florida :-).
Skye (Am/Can Ch U-GrCh Nyrakym Skywalker Samaljankan) is a very, very special dog. She was our first officially recognized co-bred dog (i.e. has both our names on the papers as breeders) and has an amazing record. She is a 3-times Grand Sweeps winner, was the #1 NE area puppy bitch for 2004 and #7 class bitch nationally in 2005. Other significant wins include BOS at the 2005 Canadian National, Grand Maturity winner at the 2005 AMCA National, 1st AOM at the 2008 Canadian National and 5th AOM at the 2010 AMCA National and multiple group placements in Canada. She has produced 5 AKC champions, 4 CKC champions, 4 UKC grand champions, and group placing dogs in the US (AKC) & Canada. In addition, her offspring have won BIMBS, Reserve BIMBS and many group wins at UKC shows with Tycho winning #8 dog in the Top 10 Invitationals in 2010. We love this girl & are so proud of her, her achievements & those of her offspring.
In Mid-October Jari & I drove to Denver, CO for the 2010 AMCA National & Regional Specialties. The weather was wonderful & we had a great time – the driving went well. But just prior to the long drive we went to the NY/NJ Specialty in Sussex County, NJ. These were the first shows for our little girl, Yentna. She excelled winning Best in Sweeps in NJ and winning Best Jr Puppy in Sweeps at the regional in Denver. She also won her class in the Futurity and placed in every class she was entered in. In fact, we won a ribbon in every class we had entered including an Award of Merit at the National with Skye :-). We still need one point to finish Bijou but she’s still not even 2 years old. Please visit our Shows page for more details on our exploits and the dogs’ achievements.
We took another road-trip from July 6th through 11th – to Indiana this time! Tycho & Bugsy were entered in the UKC Top 10 Invitational and we entered Tycho, Caesar, Skye & Bijou in the three Premier shows over the 3 days from Friday to Sunday. Unfortunately Bugsy & Bijou decided to shed all their coat so they looked like coyotes come the time :-(. So Bugsy stayed home in Canada & Bijou chilled out all weekend while the other 3 worked! We had a wonderful time over the 4 days we were there & really enjoyed the company , dogs and multitude of activities. We also had a very successful time with the dogs.
First off, Tycho wowed us all by finishing in 8th place in the Top 10, out of an entry of 483 dogs from many, many breeds. This competition was an invitational for the Top 10 winners in each breed by virtue of dogs defeated in the breed during the previous year (2009). Tycho finished as the #1 Malamute for 2009 and Bugsy was #5. The invited dogs could enter the competition and of all the eligible dogs 483 entered. Initially the judging was in the breed to pick the Best of Breed to go forward to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, all the BOB winners competed in 5 arbitrarily divided groups of dogs (i.e. they were not divided into the usual recognized groups but randomly so you had dogs from all the groups represented in each semi-final group). 4 dogs from each of these “groups” were selected by the group judge to compete in the final. In the final of 20 dogs, each dog was judged by 3 judged and given a score. These scores were then tallied and the winners were the ones with the highest scores. The top 10 placed dogs all received a lovely ribbon and a trophy bowl, which now stands proudly on our mantel! The winner was an American Pit Bull Terrier and received a larger ribbon and larger trophy bowl!
In the Premier shows, Tycho won the breed every day and also was placed 4th in the Group on Friday and then FIRST on Sunday!! Skye won the champion class on Friday and Caesar won both Saturday & Sunday. He just need one more win to become a Grand Champion!
On the July 4th weekend we took a road-trip up to Canada to visit with old friends and show the dogs. We got 7 more points on Caesar towards his CKC Championship – he just needs 1 more to finish. Tycho won breed at every show as well as a Group 3 & a Group 4!!
The final results are in and Tycho was the #1 class dog, NATIONALLY, according to the AMCA national statistics!! Waahoooo! What a great year we had with him last year in the classes. His little sister, Bijou, was the #1 puppy bitch for NY/NJ and # 5 nationally last year while Bugsy was #3 class dog nationally and #2 in the NY/NJ area. Tycho & Bugsy also qualified for the UKC Top 10 event, Tycho being the #1 Mal and Bugsy was #5.
This last weekend our Sammy (Solo) was at a Russian show handled by our friend Susanna Virtanen where he won BOB and became a Russian Champion. He is now:
Today we had a WONDERFUL time at the AKC shows in Freehold. We finished Caesar’s American KC championship – all from the Bred-By class at just over a year old, and we won BOB with Tycho. His first BOB win & then he went on to win a Group 2!! Wow, what way to start his Specials career!! And only at just over 2 years of age as well….
Last weekend we drove down to south Virginia for a 3 day weekend of UKC shows. We achieved our aim of finishing Vega as a Grand Champion but also won two Best in MultiBreed Shows (Tycho and Bijou) and one Reserve BIMBS (Tycho). What a GREAT weekend! Thanks so much to the judges for all the compliments and for thinking so highly of our dogs.
At the Bucks County KC show last Saturday, Nitro won WD/BOW for his second major. A 4-pointer. So he only needs 3 more singles to finish!! Yeah, Nitro!
Last weekend, Bijou and Tycho both did really well at the UKC shows in PA. Bijou started it with a reserve BIMBS on Saturday and Tycho went one better with a BIMBS win on Sunday! Good work guys! These are both HunterxSkye puppies but are one year apart in age.
